Malibu Residence
Landscape, Ocean, and Building Form
-
Designed in collaboration with Pritzker Prize winning architect Tadao Ando, this house overlooks the Pacific Ocean in Malibu. The 42,000 square foot house on 13 acres of land is both a residence for a family of four and a museum/gallery for the owner’s extensive modern and contemporary art collection. The two primary concrete bars which house the art galleries, and primary living spaces for the family engage the landscape with framed views. The bar volumes of the house are connected by a large roof overhang, and sandwich a long reflecting pool that visually merges with the distant horizon of the Pacific Ocean.
