AIC Japanese Gallery – A Quiet Space for Art

The Japanese Art Gallery was designed to highlight different eras and phases of Japan’s history with each section seen as a piece within the overall whole. Japan’s island geography, the source of Japan’s varied culture, was looked to for inspiration. As such, the exhibits are organized along a continuous thoroughfare. Punctuated by peninsulas and islands of displays, and articulated to reference Japanese Tansu furniture and the Tokonoma, traditional elements were transformed to create displays that engage visitors with references to Japanese culture.
